THE DENT REGISTER

The Register is an attempt to record the name and basic data about people named Dent
who have lived in the United States.

From the Register you can distinguish between persons with the same name,
find their parents, spouse(s), children, the dates and places of their birth, marriage, death, and
link to the main references, family sheets, and other sources.

The Register is limited to those with Dent as their surname at birth,
or else were the spouse or the child of such a person.

The Register is arrayed in 8 columns which hopefully are fairly obvious.
F is the Father's ID and S is the Spouse's. Ref is the Reference or Source.

HOW TO FIND....

Suppose you want information about Hatch Dent.
Go to the Register and use CTRL+F to find the name you want. Of those listed, let's say you choose this one:

~~~~|~~~~~~~~~~~~~~|~~~~|~~~~~~~~~~~~~|~~~~~~~~~~~~~|~~~~|~~~~~~~~~~~~~|~~~~~*
 ID |	 Name      |  F |   Born    In|    Died   In|  S |  Married  In| Ref.|
~~~~|~~~~~~~~~~~~~~|~~~~|~~~~~~~~~~~~~|~~~~~~~~~~~~~|~~~~|~~~~~~~~~~~~~|~~~~~|
6023+Dent, Hatch   |6013|05.20.1751-MD|12.30.1799-MD|6246|12.17.1778-MD|02075|
First is Hatch's ID number which is 6023. Everything in this website that pertains to him will begin with that number. Actually, you'll find several Hatch Dents, each with a separate ID. That's how we keep them straight. Everybody has a different ID number but they all work the same way.

From that same line you can use EDIT/FIND to go to Hatch's FATHER whose ID is 6013 and Hatch's SPOUSE whose number is 6246.

Then Hatch's MOTHER can be found as the spouse of his father. Her number is 6017.

Hatch's CHILDREN can be identified by finding his ID (6023) in their F column, indicating that he is their father.

A plus sign (+) indicates "more". If it's after the ID (as in our example) it means there is more information about Hatch at http://www.our-domain.net/Dent/6023-f.html

You might like to bookmark this URL (http://www.our-domain.net/Dent/####-f.html) to use with other names. When someone has an ID+, then substitute their ID instead of the 4#s, but in exactly the same URL. If there's no + after the ID, then there's no more information available here. Can you supply some?

If there's a plus after his Spouse's ID (not the case here) it means he had more than one spouse. Find his ID in the S column to locate the other spouse's name(s) and information. Here his ID (6023) will appear only in the S column for his wife at 6246.

For women, when there's an ID+ (suggesting more information), that information is on their family page. There's only a single listing for the family unit, so use her husband's ID (from her Spouse or "S" column) to find his ID and then substitute it for the 4#s in the URL above.

So, if we translate this single line of code into text, we learn that:

Hatch Dent (6023) was born in Maryland, on the 20th of May, 1751. He was the son of Hatch Dent (6013) and Anne Poston (6017). Hatch married Judith Poston (6246) on December 17, 1778, in Maryland and they had six children: Lucinda Dent(6334), Mary Dent (6336), Priscilla Ann Dent (6335), William Hatch Dent (6309), Catherine Amelia Judith Dent (6333), and Judith Chapman Dent (6337). Hatch Dent died in Maryland on the 30th of December, 1799. Still more details are available on their family page at http://john.rootsweb.com/Dent/6023-f.html. We found this information, and more, beginning on page 75 of CHARLES COUNTY GENTRY by Harry Wright Newman. (02075)

If this is really more than you wanted to know, just disregard it and enjoy whatever may be helpful. This same process works the same way for all of them. If you have questions or comments, an email should get a prompt reply.
